▼Match 6 / Ganryujima Rules / 3 Rounds of 3 Minutes (30 Seconds Groundwork with Submissions Allowed) / 88kg Catchweight
● Marcus Lelo Aurelio (Capoeira/Brazil)
KO at 1st Round, 2:28 (via ground-and-pound)
〇 Mahmoud Sattari (K-1/Iran)
Aurelio is a master of capoeira, a traditional Brazilian martial art with roots in the fighting techniques of slaves. Known for his spinning kicks and swift, continuous spinning attacks, he brings capoeira to practical combat.
On the other hand, Sattari is a decorated amateur Muay Thai fighter who has dominated the new K-1 stage, winning the 2022 K-1 World GP Openweight Tournament.
This was a true “mixed martial arts” bout, showcasing the striking strengths of both fighters.
In the 1st round, Aurelio started with a spinning kick, but Sattari aggressively moved to the ground. After returning to a standing position, they exchanged punches, but Sattari fell out of the ring. Regaining momentum, Sattari landed a right low kick and precise punches, leading to a ground-and-pound assault with his right hand. Sattari began to dominate.
Then, Sattari lunged in with a powerful left hook, knocking Aurelio down. As Aurelio lay on the ground, Sattari unleashed a series of devastating right hands and hooks. The referee stepped in to stop the fight after a flurry of ground-and-pound strikes, declaring Sattari the winner by KO.
After the victory, Sattari addressed the crowd, saying, “Osu! Hello, everyone. I’m very happy to fight in this charity event today. I want to continue doing my best in Japan. Please continue supporting me. Osu!” He also expressed his gratitude to Jiří Procházka, the first UFC world champion from the Czech Republic, with whom he had trained for this fight.
Comments from the post-fight press conference
Mahmoud Sattari (K-1/Iran)
It was my first time using open-finger gloves and my first MMA rules fight, and it felt great. I feel like I can continue with this in the future.
ーYour opponent had unorthodox movements
It was definitely tricky to deal with, but I kept applying pressure to stop him from moving like that. When I closed the distance, he couldn’t do anything.
ーRegarding the ground game
I focused on making sure I wouldn’t lose there. I was prepared to handle getting taken down.
ーWhat worked well for you?
I think my punches were great. All of my punches landed.
ーAbout the ground-and-pound finish
That was fun. I didn’t really train for ground-and-pound, but I’ve been studying it by watching a lot of fights.
ーDo you want to continue with MMA?
I’ll discuss that with my team. I would need to change my training for MMA. But I want to challenge myself. I’m feeling like I might do it. I’ve grown stronger and more hungry.
ーWhat about K-1 fights?
I want to fight, but I’m not sure yet what’s next. I fought two weeks ago, and I’m happy about that, but I also want to make time for my family. I’ll spend some time with them, talk with my team, and decide on the next step.
ーYou’ve had some frustrating experiences in K-1
I lost twice, but in my last fight (against Liu Ce), I lost by decision, though I don’t feel like I really lost. I think it was a draw in regulation. Going forward, I’ll aim for knockouts, so the judges don’t decide the outcome.
ーYou trained with Kai Asakura before; what do you think about his UFC title shot?
I think it’s great. He’s been working hard and getting a UFC title shot on such a big stage is an amazing achievement. I’m rooting for him. If he wins the title and brings UFC back to Japan, that would be huge.”
